Ryan's Christmas Lights 2010 - Details

25 of June, only one month away from Christmas in July (not that we celebrate that). Seems my first post of the year gets later and later each season.

I'll be first to admit that today I was still taking lights down! I've been rather lazy..

Anywho, plans for this year....

Not too much is changing in terms of lights. I'm going to redo the Gum Tree on the verge (near the road) with LED lights and do it in such a way that I can take them down rather easily each year.. The current method is too awkward hence I just leave those up all year.

Once again, changes are happening behind the scenes. I'm purchasing more controllers in July or August from the USA to replace some of the older ones I've had since 2005 and 2007. This means no longer will I have two kinds of controllers that can't talk with each other.

These new controllers will be able to do more than just turning most lights on and off to music. They can also control the brightness of the lights, so this will be a big advantage with slower songs!

I'm not 100% certain when launch night will be this year. 1st of December has a great ring to it, but I'll see how I go with Uni studies. May end up delaying one week (to the 8th) or first saturday in December (which this year is the 4th).

EDIT: Unfortunately there won't be a lego window display for another year, as the room remains occupied once again.

Update:

I realise it is around 1.5 weeks til the 'intended' launch of this year's display. Unfortunately since the first tests of October I've been having issues with the new controllers. I have even lost one light set as a result (blew up). I am still having these problems. I'm not sure if/when they will be fixed, but worse case scenario I will only be having lights in the garden (no mega tree, no roof).

Signage, scheduling, etc is still in place for a 1st launch, but with the above issues I may have to delay. Or perhaps I might forget the launch event completely this year.

I think I am slowly getting there, but with the amount of problems I've been having I don't yet see the light at the end of the tunnel.

That aside, ABC Radio Adelaide has asked me to come on air and explain a little about my display.. but this is early in the morning at 6-7 am on Monday. See how I go... hopefully I can wake up in time.

Wooohooooo I will set my alarm. Want to set up an ABC radio talkback under FIVEaa with BE looking after it as I know that is the station he listens too. What ya think BE?

Due to the stormy weather that was supposed to clear after 6 pm, I have made the decision to cancel the launch event this evening. The 2nd also has forecasted thunderstorms and rain so the new launch will be this Friday on December 3rd.

Well in case anybody hasn't been reading my blog, there was damage to the display after Tuesday's horrible stormy weather. All the eletronics became wet, which meant there was not a full display from Tuesday night right until Sunday. In fact Between Tuesday and Friday there was nothing running at all.

Anyway, the display is back to is near-full glory. About $100 worth of lights seems to be permanently damaged from the rain, but I intend to claim these on insurance (no excess).

Also, Community TV Channel Channel 31 came out tonight to interview me and film the display - I am told this is going to air on Friday evening
